Male Female

For several years now I have been interested in the male and the female aspects around us, its union, differences, sexuality and the social position it is given in the modern society.

I see the male and female as two opposing and simultaneously attracting sides. Despite the differences there is always a magnetic tension and strive for a unity.

I have transposed my obsession into the material world by choosing silk/pearls to represent FEMALE aspect and steel/iron to represent MALE aspect. By joining them together I aim to achieve a seamless transition, which flows smoothly from one material into the other. Thus creating an ambiguous symbiosis.

The meeting point is neither one nor the other, but an individual new essence, which could be identified within the human world as the ambiguous group which we call "the intersex" or a "third gender".

When wearing my jewellery I want the wearer to experience his/her opposing feminine or masculine side. Some questions which I tried to find an answer….

+ Why do we comply with the prevailing norms of the sexual dualism in our society?

+ What is the ultimate origin of what we call normal and abnormal.

+ Who decides what is strictly male and what remains female?
